[ She's not sure which is worse: being made fun of, or knowing that he's being serious.
She takes a moment to take that all in. It seems like earnest advice?
Maybe she overstepped a little bit ... ]
so it's more important to get hit than it is to do the hitting? does it really make you stronger to get hit?
[ She types and deletes a few things for what she's trying to say next. "I don't feel stronger when I get hit" seems like a weird admission to make. Finally, she settles on: ]
[To Ryuji, the entire path is second nature to him. He's been the group tank before, and has a keen sense of reckless self abandon; he'd give up his own life to make sure his friends could get out of a sinking, burning ship.]
So like
A bunch of my friends are paladins, and their whole thing, aside from gettin' inspired by god bein' inside of them and all that touchy feely shit, is basically shielding all the damage away.
We don't use shields, we just kinda charge in and wreak havoc
A paladin and a barbarian are a terrifyin' combo though, I can tell you that first hand
But that's beside the point
I think you're s'posed to tap into something inside you that makes you stronger than you feel you are. You've got this inner resolve that doesn't need a god or a magic source to burn sun bright, y'know?
You got rage, and you let that rage grow
And before you know it, you're totally giving it to the man
all of my friends just use magic it feels like i have to be the one to protect them screaming and hitting stuff doesn't seem like it does a very good job of that
[ And if she's not able to shield the damage ... what then?
"Let that rage grow", he says. But ... when she's at her maddest, she says and does things she regrets later. How is that supposed to be helpful? ]
how am i supposed to tap into that exactly i just decide to be mad? that's probably a dumb question it would just make me feel better if i could turn it on and off like a switch or something
Magic's good 'n all but from my experiences you gotta have a mix of close range combat and spellslinging. Or at least, arrow slingin'.
Next time someone's channeling a spell back there, you just lawnmower down anyone that comes close to 'em. It's pretty simple. You're creatin' an opening for them to get lit.
I mean, literally.
[He doesn't know about her regrets or her personal experiences, but he does know how his works, sort of.]
You ever have a moment in your life where you sit back and think "that's really goddamn unfair"? Like some sorta place where you knew the cards were stacked against you and there wasn't anything you could do about it? Usually that's what does it for me.
And sometimes, just getting hit really hard does it.
Don't think that there's an off switch, though. It sorta just feeds off your raw emotion.
That ain't a bad thing, either. Makes you stronger and stuff.

I would know, I'm the king of dumb questions
