Okay.

[why are her boys all like this.

[Why Are You Doing It Like This]

I just spent three weeks in the hospital. [Medbay. Erika had opened the door, listened to his pitch, then slumped against the doorframe on her right side, looking exhausted in the way that only someone who's soared well past exasperation (and abandoned vitriol) can.

She presses her nose into the metal for a moment and just reflects on this whole series of choices?]

If we go down, you'd better cushion my fall.

[saddle up, asshole]

[Physical activity doesn't compel Erika the same way it does Ryuji. She could - and does - stay put for hours, days at a time, in pursuit of what does compel her.

All actions can be in service of accomplishment. If the goal is good, self-deprivation loses its sting.]

I'm good. [All moaning and groaning aside: she climbs on carefully, for his sake and hers. She's bony and light, like a preying mantis...?

She treats her left foot gingerly, but doesn't require too much fussing before they're good to go. Piggyback old hat, even if it's been a while.]

Thanks.

[Every time they take a corner, she holds her breath. It's audible. Other than that, she stays quiet and still - a bit stiff, holding on tight - so it might be a bit out of the blue when she replies...]

This is fun.

[holy fuck stop the presses that was a compliment

And there's nothing in her voice to suggest it's not genuine, either.]

[Are they

are they stopped yet?

Are they - okay good because as soon as they're stopped Erika's pulling his ear.]

Who said you had to say anything?

[When he concedes, she lets go, then pats his head like a dog.......]

Research for Project Mnemosyne. That's the memorial. [Gundam doesn't have a monopoly on pretentious naming! Hers are just classier.] For now, I stashed the files we have on Toto [that's one of her stuffed animals] and left her in the Metaverse. The station systems aren't continuous there, and it got me thinking about using physical distance...like, making a time capsule and throwing it into orbit. I want to know what kind of resources that would take.

Probably. [...silently preening.] I've got a certain someone keeping an eye on her, so all it should take is a minute or two for the handoff.

[This is, in fact, fun. It's been...years, actually, since she's done anything more physically adventurous than taking the train, unless you count zipping around in VR, but virtual sensations aren't quite the same as real ones. The periodic throb of her ankle punctuates but doesn't diminish the feeling of gliding, momentum pulling when they turn or stop, Ryuji shifting to keep his balance.

It's dangerous, but not probably-fatal dangerous. It feels like sneaking in a victory.]

Hmm. Well, they live there, and they always know what I'm up to.

[Is this going to be a riddle? Yes. From what Wormmon could tell her about what Shadows were and what they did in the Metaverse, she suspects anyone experienced with the place must have certain knowledge about them. No harm in verifying that.

Get to riddlin'!]

[personal profile] bu773rfly 2018-09-03 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That is out there.

[But it's in a relatively new category of "out there", newly invented for station life. It's a midway point between normal, predictable questions and spontaneous, nonsensical ones: things that make no damn sense at first blink but should be assumed to be meaningful, because life is just that weird now.]

But, no. Venus and I fell in accidentally...I met the Shadow. Then we left. Nothing weirder than that happened.

[She looks up and across the hangar when they reach it, and turns her attention back to the ground for dismounting. Careful, careful. She lands gingerly on her toes and moves her weight to her right leg.]

[personal profile] bu773rfly 2018-09-03 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm. I know.

[And yet she used it as a hangout for a while there...

Life is not a coward's game.

The hangar is directly out of Hollywood sci-fi, with ominous bay doors and high-tech clutter. Erika walks to the rail - favoring that foot - and leans against it, peering out.

Man. Check this shit out.]

...We're looking for any kind of documentation, and if not that, then just...some sense of what it takes to keep things safe in vacuum. I don't really know anything about space, besides what people have been talking about around here.

[She shakes her head and eases herself down the stairs by the handrail, carefully but without too much visible difficulty.] You can go ahead. Just stay in earshot.

[Like they're not going to the same place anyways? The logical thing to do would be to examine the unmanned crafts. The cool thing to do is to go check out that sweet spaceship. The right choice is obvious.

Hup hup hup.]

...I wonder how much training it takes to fly one of these.

[personal profile] bu773rfly 2018-09-07 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Mmmm.

[She hadn't wanted to touch things in here willy-nilly...but Ryuji's doing it, so, might as well.]

This whole time, I've really missed virtual reality. It's like having an extra body for things you couldn't normally do. [She touches a hull seam experimentally. Then draws back, eyes landing on one of the docking mechanisms with interest. That's not what they came here for, though...so she starts moving towards the rows of surface probes instead, walking slowly.] Piloting seems like it could be like that, when I think about it. You're controlling something a lot bigger and stronger than you are.
